the bedroom. Indeed, not only is this pervasive problem of being spoiled in a society of plenty problematic in general, it has led to school failure. Many children of today
have a multitude of games and toys. They further have television sets in their rooms and no study routine. This is a recipe for failure. The problem is
that the children who do not have a proper study environment will lag behind their peers. It is true that while having a television in ones bedroom can create a
situation where it is "always on," parents can make rules for television viewing and implement study hours. For example, some experts recommend having a routine where the television is off
in every room and all the children must stay in their rooms to engage in academic pursuits. It is presumed that they will study because there is little else to
do. Of course, the children may become involved in other non-academic activities, but having the television off will at least be an improvement. Although parents can set specific TV rules,
it may be advantageous to neglect the set altogether. There have been experiments in communities where television is turned off and more work is done. People find spiritual renewal with
such an approach. While most people will not want to give up all of their favorite programs-and some are arguably educational-there is credible evidence that television can be detrimental. In
fact, experts claim that television is quite detrimental for children (Shin, 2004). The time-displacement hypothesis suggests that the act of viewing television simply takes away time from other, more important
