not understand the interplay between the sexes, or what true intimacy is like, he has an uncanny ability to capture his audience. Who August Strindberg is and why he wrote
his works to portray women in an unkindly manner is irrelevant. What is interesting is that although he seems to have a significant problem with the female disposition, he certainly
is able to get into the mind set of the female, and portray women as both their stereotypes and their reality. In "The Stronger," this author is able to capture
personalities that others might abhor. It is in your face contempt that makes this play so consuming. In contemplating "The Stronger," a play about two women, some wonder to
whom the title refers. Does the title refer to Mrs. X or Miss Y? It is an interesting question and arguably it could be either, but the term stronger insinuates
that a choice needs to be made. One of the women is truly stronger. How would the author have judged his characters? The Stronger is about two women talking.
The married woman listens to the younger one who is just coming off of a break up in a relationship and throughout the discussion there is some suspicion that the
man she had been involved with was none other than Mrs. Xs husband. It is not at all a unique plot line, but the fact that this one act play
has only two characters is quite intriguing. The use of monologue here is intense, and this work is a prime example of this technique. However, there is a lot
