are far more stressed today than in previous generations. There are those who would argue that people, have always had stress and this is quite true. There are those who
would argue that life is a stressful reality and previous generations had stress factors such as war and financial struggles and as such the stress today is not any worse.
However, studies are clearly indicating that more people are stressed today than in any other previous generation and that they are generally stressed on a very powerful ongoing basis for
a variety of reasons. This apparently increased condition involving stress in society has led many to research and study the affects that such stress has on health. So many
individuals are taking one medication or another for stress and stress related conditions that it is becoming a very serious concern of many professionals. The following paper examines stress and
how it affects health. Stress and Health Most, if not all, research involving stress today also involves an ancient and important response that human beings possess when it
comes to stressful situations. It is often referred to as the fight-or-flight response. Human beings, and animals, when confronted with a stressful and potentially dangerous situation will either fight of
run away. There is an increase in adrenaline and a condition of high stress that allows the individual, or the animal, to have the energy to run or fight. It
is also involved with something called cortisol which is a chemical in the body that is essentially produced in such situations. In the past our ancestors from prehistory relied
