three events that contributed most to the students stress score were divorce, health change of immediate family member and spouse starting or stopping work (Holmes et al, 1967). Indeed,
the divorce will be an on-going stressor because it takes a while to sort out what belongs to whom as well as put emotions to rest. If the student
is relieved to be divorced, the emotional aspect may not take long; however, if the divorce was not her idea, she may experience considerable stress for quite some time.
Depending upon the extent of illness a family member has, this particular stressor could either be short-lived or stretched out over time. If
the illness turns into death, this will add yet another significant stress agent to the students list. If the spouse stopped working and finances are significantly impacted, there is
no telling how long this stressor will be temporary, inasmuch as there are no guarantees in todays job market that a new position will be found in a timely manner.
If the spouse started a new job, it may seem like a positive stressor but there are negative aspects that the spouse will inadvertently bring home for the student
