is capacity building? Capacity building is one of the most recent topics of interest in the nonprofit sector. One definition is "actions that improve nonprofit effectiveness" (The Management Assistance Program
for Nonprofits, 1999), which was offered by Barbara Blumenthal in her book, Investing in Capacity Building (The Management Assistance Program for Nonprofits, 1999). Another perspective on capacity building refers "to
the concept as actions that enhance a nonprofits ability to work towards its mission" (The Management Assistance Program for Nonprofits, 1999). The Alliance for Nonprofit Management commented that "Capacity building,
capacity itself, and organizational effectiveness are all related, but they are not the same" (n.d.). This Alliance went on to write that :Capacity building refers to activities that improve an
organizations ability to achieve its mission or a persons ability to define and realize his/her goals or to do his/her job more effectively" (Alliance for Nonprofit Management, n.d.). The concept
is parallel with the concepts of organizational development/performance/effectiveness (The Management Assistance Program for Nonprofits, 1999). There are any number of approaches to capacity building as well as techniques to
achieve the goal. For example, Cynthia Massarsky, who is the co-author of Enterprising Nonprofits: Revenue Generation in the Nonprofit Sector, notes that nonprofit (The Management Assistance Program for Nonprofits, 1999).
