SA139war.rtf I. Introduction The Gulf War, fought during the early 1990s, enjoyed
overwhelming support, particularly as the first strikes were televised on CNN. It was the first prime time war that Americans were able to see first hand and there were remarkably
few American casualties. Yet, in analyzing the objectives of the war, and military strategy, factual information comes to light. This war that appears to be simple as surgical strikes were
used in the dead of night, entailed complex military and political plans. Its causes and objectives may be summarized in a sentence or two, but one can sense between the
lines that the Gulf War was entrenched in more complicated circumstances, and this may be glimpsed by looking at military strategy and objectives as well as Iraqs take on things.
II. Objectives of the U.S.A. All short-term conflicts present hard questions about military objectives (Sterner, 1990). The Gulf War was no exception (1990).
The Bush administration and the U.N. Security Council both stated their objectives as being the restoration of the status quo (1990). That would of course mean the unconditional withdrawal of
Iraqi forces from Kuwait and the restoration of Kuwaits original government (1990). A student writing on this subject will want to determine whether or not the
