them to cope with things. For instance, technology now allows people to reach their loved ones at a moments notice. On 9/11, many people have reported how wonderful it was
to be able to get in touch with a loved one and see that they are safe. Even for those who died in the tragedy, people were able to be
reached immediately. Technology has helped people to learn independently in an educational setting as well. There is what is now called distance learning. One might be able to convey
the idea that technology has helped people to learn independently because it creates a stellar environment for effective learning. This is all possible due to technology and was not available
in past decades. Why is distance learning valuable? One benefit of the Open University and other institutions like it, as discussed by Bork (1997), is that it can provide good
education to a great number of students at reduced costs. College is expensive, particularly if room and board is necessary. Distance learning allows students to attend universities that would otherwise
provide logistical challenges. Of course, distance learning is not peculiar to high level institutions. It is something that is also aligned with regular K-12 public school. Sometimes, for example, there
are situations where summer school is best taken through one of these online learning facilities. Some schools today do not have resources to provide summer school at no cost and
