approaches to instilling this ability to learn through the developing of responsibility and self-discipline. Cornerstone to Glassers (1999) theory is the notion that people behave certain ways given their
particular circumstances; these behaviors, however, are all motivated by the choices made by each individual. Moreover, human beings harbor the need to fulfill five fundamental needs, including survival, power,
fun, freedom and love/belonging. Together, these elements constitute the reasons why some students are more readily able to learn while others are fraught with struggle. According to Glasser (1999),
people often disconnect from the world around them when things become too much of a challenge, with much of that disconnection stemming from one of the Seven Deadly Habits (criticizing,
blaming, complaining, nagging, threatening, punishing, bribing or rewarding to control) that sabotage the desired success being sought. When things are going well and an individual experiences the all-important sense
of love and belonging/closeness and connectedness within the vast sense of life or the more intimate aspects of personal relationships, the Seven Caring Habits (supporting, encouraging, listening, accepting, trusting, respecting,
