A key factor in the employment relationship, and the way in which motivation takes place in the employment environment is the way that remuneration is designed, this needs to be linked to the organizations goal, as well as embrace the aspect of the divergent culture. Holmes (2005), outlined a five stage process by which diversity initiatives can benefit organizational performance, this incorporates the need to clarify benefits of the diversity program, identify SMART goals, develop an action plan, to define performance expectations and evaluate the impact on performance. Potential benefit of diversity initiatives first stage is to look at what is meant in terms of strategic human resource management would be used in order to align the remuneration with the organizational goals. Schuler (1992) defines it as "all those activities affecting the behavior of individuals in their efforts to formulate and implement the strategic needs of business", Wright and McMahan (1992) define it as "The pattern of planned human resource deployments and activities intended to enable the firm to achieve its goals".
