the filed of IT outsourcing to address problems particular to outsourcing in the biotechnological field. WHY OUTSOURCE A study conducted in 2002 demonstrated that at that time outsourcing was fast
becoming a part of the strategic plans of many companies (Monroe, 2000). Of the total number of respondents, it was found that seventy percent of the total had included
outsourcing as part of their strategic plan (Monroe, 2000). Certain services were outsourced more than others. The top ten that were cited by the respondents were architectural design,
trash and waste removal, housekeeping, facility systems, landscape maintenance, property appraisals, hazardous materials removal, major moves, major redesigns, and furniture moves (Monroe, 2000). With the advent of IT research
and development, it is also becoming a resource that is being outsourced. Outsourcing is usually used when specialty skills which are needed are not available in-house or are not cost
efficient to handle in-house. Many companies also outsource in an effort to allow more time in-house to focus on their core competencies (Monroe, 2000). Other companies choose to
outsource as it allows them access to tools and equipment, that they would not otherwise have access to (Monroe, 2000). This allows the company to have added flexibility for
work fluctuation which in turn enhances quality and results in overall improved customer satisfaction (Monroe, 2000). Outsourcing is not all inclusive. It was started as a means of reducing
