locations in which each are used. There is no reason to have exam gloves anywhere within the surgical suite: if exam gloves cannot be used in surgery, then not
having them available there positively contributes to heightened safety in that there is no chance of error. Similarly, there is also no reason
to have surgical gloves within easy access of exam areas. Though surgical gloves can be used for examinations, they are more costly and if they are used in that
way, then the hospitals total cost for gloves increases without realizing any benefit from the increased cost. If for some reason there is a stockout of exam gloves, then
exam personnel can retrieve a supply of surgical gloves for emergency use. They do not need to be within easy reach, however. The gloves most readily accessible in
either area should be those intended for use in each area. What do your results reveal about the challenges facing operations managers? There
is a delicate balance between cost, supply, usage and contingency measures. Though the hospital needs to carry adequate supplies of each type of glove, there is no need to
