revolve around the gay community. While homosexuals, by and large, are just like the rest of the populous--with the exception of sexual preference--they have been portrayed as pedophiles, swingers, either
very feminine or masculine, cross-dressers and sinners. Of course, every group has its idiosyncrasies and is subject to some form of criticism. For example, overweight people are visibly unattractive according
to the larger society and they are stereotyped as lazy and out of control. Yet, many overweight people contend that they cannot lose weight for genetic reasons and that of
course they would be thin if it were possible. Similarly, homosexuals claim that their sexual preference is far from a lifestyle choice. They are born with an attraction to members
of their own gender and it is this that seems to put them in the same camp with others who--through no fault of their own--behave or live a particular way.
