there is adventure, and terror, it is developed without for example, chase scenes. There are no hauntings either. Rather, the protagonist is terrorized by a deranged fan. It is not
a typical concept, nor is it uncommon in society today. Jodie Foster for example was plagued by one dangerous fan. The star of My Sister Sam, Rebecca Schaeffer, was killed
by a fan that wanted to possess her. In the work Misery, Paul Sheldon is a novelist who loses his memory but does eventually remember who he is. What happens
is that after an accident, he is nursed back to health by someone named Annie who does not want to let him go. The title of this novel Misery is
attached to the characters novels of which the protagonist is Misery Chastain. The plot of Kings Misery concerns this character, who has no memory and has gone missing, but is
found by a fan that has taken him under her wing. Of course, a normal person, upon recognizing that this man is a well known novelist, would have called authorities.
Annie does no such thing. Rather, she keeps him captive. During the time that Paul Sheldon is held by this sick individual, he is forced to rewrite a current novel
he had been working on. Ironically, after his capture and release, he does publish the work and it is a success. In some way, Annie plays a positive role
