often reflected in their works. For example, with Charles Dickens we have a man who experienced living in poverty much like his characters. His young experiences stuck with him and
lived on in his stories about simple poor people and rich cruelty. With Edgar Allan Poe we have a man who was disturbed by many things in his life, perhaps
most notably, the death of his wife which led to the writing of his infamous poem "The Raven." Hemingway wrote of what he experienced. In short, many authors took experiences
from their own lives to make enchanting works of literature. With that in mind the following paper examines the relationship between Cranes work and his life. Cranes Life
and Works In its most simplistic illustration we see that "Stephen Crane was born in Newark, New Jersey. After attending Syracuse University for one semester, he started working as a
freelance reporter in the slums of New York City" (Owl Eyes). It was after this that "He published his first work, Maggie, a Girl of the Streets(1893), drawing on this
experience" (Owl Eyes). However, he "is best known for The Red Badge of Courage(1895), a realistic look at the Civil War" though he was never really involved in the war
(Owl Eyes). He did, however, serve "as a correspondent during the Spanish-American War in 1898. At that time, he published The Open Boat and Other Stories(1898). In 1897, he moved
