the recent past is aligned with technology. He provides a great deal of information as he makes comments on a variety of topics including the mistreatment of women and
the divide in terms of distribution of wealth (Stavrianos, 1997). As the author delves into the past, he makes these observations. For example, Stavrianos (1997) writes: "Women also lost status
in tributary societies because a new emphasis on inheritable private property led men to go to great lengths to ensure that their personal wealth would pass on to their own
children, whose paternity could not be left in doubt" (p.69). Society is simply ordered today. There are wills that assure wealth will be passed down to paternal heirs. Yet, the
beginnings of this concept had been seen a long time ago. Technology is again another area that the author addresses. The author writes: "Technology was a critical factor in the
success of Homo Sapiens, whether in the tools they used to prevail against predators, in the use of fire to open new horizons in human diet and habitat, or in
the development of speech that enabled each generation, thanks to its storehouse of language, to begin where the previous generation left off rather than having to start anew" (Stavrianos, 1997,
p. 19). What may be gleaned from this work is the idea that throughout history, man has created his own reality. He has used technology to prosper. What is also
apparent is that from the outset, there has always been a hierarchy, a divide between rich and poor, and a sense of lineage. Fast forward to 2007 and one sees
