used to assess the different tastes and asked to choose which potation chip they preferred. In order to assess this there is an hypothesis that the consumers will prefer the ships fried in canola oil, therefore the null hypothesis is that there is no preference for any type of potato chip. We will use the sample result to try and prove the null hypothesis and if they has to be rejected we will accept the hypothesis. The use of a Chi Squared test is a suitable test. If there is no preference the results should show a similar amount of preferences for each category (1 = animal fat, 2 = canola oil and 3 = baked). The expected value would therefore be 16 for each of the cooking methods. The Chi Squared test gives a result of 27.125 which is the x2. Observed Expected (O-E)2 (O-E)2/E 1 7 16 81 5.0625 2 33 16 289 18.0625 3 8 16 64 4 Total 27.125 With thus test statistic it is possible to reject the null hypothesises by looking at the distribution table below. As there 3 options there are two degrees of freedom, so using the table below we can see we need to reject the null hypothesis, with an Alpha of 0.001, and as such we can accept the hypothesis. Df/alpha 0.5 0.1 0.05 0.02 0.01 0.001 1 0.455 2.706 3.841 5.412 6.635 10.827 2 1.386 4.605 5.991 7.824 9.21 13.815 3 2.366 6.251 7.815 9.837 11.345 16.268 4 3.357 7.779 9.488 11.668 13.277 18.465 5 4.351 9.236 11.07 13.388 15.086 20.517 It does appear that the consumer prefer canola oil with a 99% degree of certainty Exercise 9 In this exercise there ...
