wide variety of formats it can take. The utilisation of an existing tool will aid with the research. Tools such as surveys which have already been developed have also be
tested and assessed, reducing the potential for error in the research as well as increasing the efficiency with which the research can be performed.
The development of a survey tool based on different aspects and characteristics of a learning organization has been developed by Edmondson (et al, 2008). The survey looks at
different areas of an organization. Three building blocks that are required to create a learning organization have been identified; these are the development of a learning environment and culture, the
presence of learning processes and the leadership for learning. The learning organization survey which has been developed aims to identify the level of learning that can take place. The survey
is applied to the employees of an organization with the use of a likert scale. The employees are asked to assess a set of statements, with answers ranging from highly
inaccurate to highly accurate, With seven potential answers the responses can then be scored from 1 to 7, where 1 is a low negative score for the presence of a
learning organization and 7 is the high score indicate learning organization. The application of the survey will allow the organization to be
assessed and the result presented placing the organization on a scale showing how they compare in the overall environment. An example of a single result is shown below Figure 1
