The impact of abuse in adulthood is also mentioned, but there are no statistics to back up the occurrence of different psychological symptoms. The literature regarding the adjustment of female
inmates is very limited, with little focusing only one women. The sample size is 92, with a mean age of 30.91 years with a standard deviation of 8.56
years, the average sentence being served was 2.27 years with a standard deviation of 1.85 years. Of the sample that were used 30 of the respondents or 32.6% had no
history of abuse. 24 respondents equating to 26.08% of the sample had a history of abuse as adult, and 28 respondents, equating to 30.4% of the sample had suffered abuse
as a child. Looking at this group there are some statistically interesting patterns. The average age of the women who had suffered abuse as an adult was 32.65 with
