on public schools in Tennessee." As would well be expected, each town/county has different needs, different conditions, and thus different results in relationship to the report card(s). The following paper
compares averages/percentages for Pickett County and the state of Tennessee. State of Tennessee: Education Report Card The first issue is that
which involves a comparison of the percentage of core classes that are taught by Highly Qualified teachers. In Pickett County the percentage is 63% and in the state it is
80.9%. This clearly indicates that Pickett County is not doing as well as the state average by quite a bit. The second
issue asks for student demographics. Interestingly enough, in the county of Pickett 100% of the students are white, with a count of 694 students. In the state the number of
students is 683,744 (69.9%) white, 242,660 (24.8%) African American, 35,472 (3.6%) Hispanic, 13,242 (1.4%) Asian, 1856 (0.2%). Native American, and 57 (0.1%) Pacific Islander. With such information it is apparent
that Pickett County is a white county in relationship to students. This is not necessarily something that can be fixed for it is not common practice to try to bring
in other cultures into any given county in order to make the statistics more even. In relationship to students who are disabled
Pickett County has 97 students with disabilities, making up 13.9% of the student population. As it relates to those who are considered economically disadvantaged the number is 414, or 64%
