Diversity is evidenced by actual numbers: 35 percent of employees were minorities (Fortune Magazine, 2008). * Our Stores: These are to be havens for customers to relax, meet friends, and enjoy their time (Starbucks, Mission, 2009). * Our Neighborhood: The company considers itself a neighbor wherever they are located and act to be a positive force in that community (Starbucks, Mission, 2009). * Our Shareholders: The company believes by being successful in the forgoing sectors, they will be successful as a company and they hold themselves accountable to each stakeholder (Starbucks, Mission, 2009). Starbucks values go well beyond this list of principles to live by. For instance, they treat their employees more generously than most fast-food chains and they have far less turnover.
