is shared by numerous other smaller companies (Tripp, 2005). The company grew and continues to grow exponentially. Their corporate strategies include this rapid expansion, human resource management, aggressive marketing,
developing relationships and careful selection of partners (Rosato, 2004). The company also retains a healthy cash account with very little debt (Rosato, 2004). Their success is founded on these
strategies. It is founded on the practice of continuous improvement. If one concept had to be selected as the primary reason for this companys success, it would be summed up
in one word - people and that includes their employees, their customers and their suppliers. This focus is at the root of their strategic decisions. Motivation We all
know that a highly motivated workforce leads to high performance and organizational success. The first two of their six guiding principles are: Provide a great work environment and treat each
other with respect and dignity, and Embrace diversity as an essential component in the way we do business (Starbucks, 2008). Starbucks pays its employees an undisclosed amount but it
is higher than the minimum wage (Weber, 2005). They also pay about 75 percent of medical, dental and vision benefits, including part-time employees who work at least 20 hours per
week (Weber, 2005). There is also a profit-sharing plan, and tuition reimbursement (Weber, 2005). Employees, who are called partners, receive a free pound of coffee each week and vacation time
