dramatic changes to get the company back on track. Unfortunately, that was the same year the market crashed and the recession began. Since 2008, the company has grown again. It
has regained its focus on customer service and it has reorganized itself. This paper discusses the leadership styles Schultz used during these years. They include autocratic, transactional, transformational, and servant.

left his CEO position at the original Starbucks in 1985 and opened a string of cafes under the Il Giornale name. In 1987, Schultz bought out Starbucks and rebranded all
stores under the Starbucks Corporation brand. Starbucks was enormously successful very quickly and Schultz began his global expansion beginning with Canada, Japan, and the United Kingdom between 1996 and 1998.
It remains the #1 specialty coffee shop in the world despite its recent problems (Bramhall, 2008). The company has always lived by certain principles, such as customer satisfaction, high
quality, accountability, providing an excellent working environment, embracing diversity, social responsibility, and fair trade with coffee bean farmers (Stopper, 2004). The companys mission statement is: "Our mission: to inspire and
