several times over its history. a. Types of plans evident from the video. Starbucks operational plan with the coffee bean farmers is to establishes policies and practices that will
keep the growers in business. The plan further helps the farmers keep up their farms so that they can produce high quality crops. One tactic in that plan was to
educate farmers in Mexico that they did not need to cut down trees to grow more coffee beans. Instead, they can plant beans that will grow in the shade of
the trees. This is a good deal more environmentally-friendly. A successful strategy Starbucks has always used is fair trade, which means they have always paid farmers a fair price
for their beans. They have now adopted the Fair Trade process wherein they must meet the criteria to have their beans certified as Fair Trade. It focuses on small farmers
being treated correctly and receiving a fair price. The fair trade that Starbucks has always practiced is an operational plan because it outlines the relationship between farmers and the organization
as a whole. Another strategy is the line of credit they are now providing to their growers. As Hay commented, many of their suppliers are small farms who cannot
get bank loans but they need the money to pay their workers today. The line of credit and their new strategy to enter into three to five year contacts with
growers would also allow the farmers to upgrade equipment and perform the many tasks needed to keep improving quality, such as proper pruning. b. Direction for Starbucks over next
