or inexperienced individual being called into action. This individual is Luke Skywalker. He is not truly aware of his heritage, though he believes that he knows the simple truths. He is called into action, becoming a young man who will fight for good and ultimately become a Jedi warrior. Interestingly enough, we have a more subtle vision of a heros call to action in the character of Dorothy in "The Wizard of Oz." Though she is a girl, whereas Luke is a boy, she is a simple farm youth like Luke and finds herself in a position where she must also do battle with evil in order to find herself, similarly to Luke. The Mentor In "Star Wars" Luke obviously has a mentor in the figure of Obi-wan Kenobi, a figure who will also become his father figure. Obi-Wan is everything that Luke drams of being for Obi-Wan is a Jedi warrior. But, Luke also has Han-Solo who, although a rebel of sorts, is a man who develops and thus teaches Luke about many things in experiencing his own life. And, then in the figure of Yoda, in "The Empire Strikes Back," we have another powerful mentor for Luke. And, like any youth faced with such a powerful and perhaps confusing mentor, Luke is angered and frustrated as he feels he is learning nothing at all. He struggles on this planet, thinking Yoda is ridiculous at times, until he eventually begins to see the truth in what Yoda is teaching. The Father Figure and the False Father Figure As mentioned, Luke has Obi-Wan as a father figure. This is not only because Obi-Wan is a Jedi but because Obi-Wan knew Lukes father, who is now presumed dead and was known as a great Jedi himself. ...
