a study in order to investigate the perspectives of non-mainstream nurse educators, focusing on participants of Latin American heritage, on the topic of cultural competence. Using a grounded theory approach, interviews with the participants did not distinguish between competent care and culturally competent care, as they considered cultural competency a critical factor in delivering competent care (Canales and Bowers, 2001). In other words, in the twenty-first century, in order to delivery competent care- period-nurses need to deliver care within a context that demonstrates cultural competency.
