Act. There is an urgency to the educational institution in relationship to ensuring children are learning and are advancing in their learning skills. This seems to be acceptable to most as it relates to those students who are of average or above average ability, but more often than not those children with learning disabilities are pushed to take the same tests without attention to disabilities, or they are given the tests with more time allotted, also indicating there is not attention given to the needs or disabilities of the students. In truth, standardized testing cannot be generally handed out for those students with learning disabilities with the expectation that the students will pass, nor should many of them even be expected to pass any kind of standardized test in order to graduate. The following paper examines the relationship between standardized testing and the learning disabled. The paper also discusses the validity of standardized testing in general. Standardized Testing and the Learning Disabled Standardized testing has, as mentioned, become a very powerful reality in much of the country. Many people argue that in order for our future generations to compete with other nations they must have the ability to read and write more than adequately. It has long been understood that the education system of the nation is perhaps less than adequate as many children seem to leave high school with a diploma, yet are unable to read. As such standardized testing has become the tool for insisting children have basic skills prior to graduating. Many also argue that standardized testing may be a good idea in general, but that it is not really a good tool for assessing success, nor is it an adequate tool for meeting the needs of all students.
