on these kinds of tests. Why? Perhaps it is the very format in which the test is administered. Filling in bubbles on a separate answer sheet can cause great problems
for many students, particularly those with specific perceptual deficits. If the format were changed, would students perform better? Three different research designs
to study this problem are offered. CAUSE AND EFFECT: THE EXPERIMENTAL METHOD Hypothesis: The research hypothesis is: The
format of the standardized test has a negative effect on student performance. The Null Hypothesis then is: The format of the standardized test has no effect on student performance. A.
Operational Definitions: * Standardized test means a norm-referenced currently in use. * Student person currently enrolled in a regular classroom. * Format refers the type of paper the test is
printed on and to the way in which the one being tested must record his or her answers. * Negative means performing less well. Research Design: Two groups
of 50 Subjects each will be researched. Both groups will respond to the same questions. The difference is that the experimental group will be presented the questions in the same
manner as other tests given by classroom teachers. The Multiple Choice questions will be presented with the possible choices directly beneath the question and will require the student to circle
the letter of his or her choice. Plain copier paper will be used. The Control group will be presented the standardized test in the format designed by the publisher.
