Tennessee Williams play the Glass Menagerie, there is increased flexibility due to the more fluid nature of the pay,. And the focuses that represents a slice of life rather than particular plots and events leading to a neat consultation. The understanding needs to start with background information to play the play in its context, this looks at the author and the style and genre used as well as the historical context of the play, where it was set and the background that would have impacted on the characters as well as the way that the scenes would have been made up so that real life was represented. Once this has been considered we need to look at the flavour of the play and how it may be staged, looking at issues such as scene/set design, and the artefacts that may be used to give the play the taste that the original author intended as well as making it relevant for todays audiences. The first aspect we will look at is the author, then we will look at the setting for the play, considering the social, political and economic times in which the play is asset so that when we look at the content of the play and how it may be staged we have a better idea of how to interpret the work.
