any time. It is a intense story that seems to transcend many different dreams and thoughts of the 20th century, giving us a man who loses his pride, his ambition,
and his identity. Of course, it is also a play that illustrates how one many really never had any unique thoughts, or unique identity and as such lost all that
he believed he had. It is a relatively deep and yet straightforward play that seems to rely very little on the surrounding environment, or the setting. For the most part
we are presented with a typical home, and very traditional settings, settings which are impressions of everyday environments. It is also a play that all but demands a simplicity of
stage direction, of movement of the characters in light of the fact that the play is not frenzied at all. It is a slow and deliberate play that presents us
with a powerful shallow existence of one man. And, yet it is in this simplicity, this easily recognizable and subtle setting that we are truly offered the essence of the
play. Bearing this in mind the following paper examines the stage, the setting, and the directions of this play. The paper examines how productions have been carried out and how
they alter the way in which Miller originally set up these elements. The Stage and Setting and Directions In the first production to be examined the author, Shaner,
states that "In Anita Khanzadians smart staging, the pathos begins the moment the lights go up on the forlorn silhouette of Eddie Jones as Willy Loman, a shambling hulk of
