of the most successful hospitals in Orange County. This is a faith-based hospital facility that is highly respected in the region (St. Jude Medical Center, 2009). The guiding principles of
the hospital are service, dignity, justice and excellence in all they do (St. Jude Medical Center, 2009). Dignity is about respect; service is about providing excellent service in every interaction;
excellence has to do with providing the best service by offering continuing professional development for all employees; and justice relates to providing service to all those who are vulnerable (St.
Jude Medical Center, 2009). St. Judes mission is written as: "To extend the healing ministry of Jesus in the tradition of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange by continually
improving the health and quality of life of the people in the communities we serve" (St. Jude Medical Center, 2009). Their vision is to provide compassionate care to every patient
and to promote the behaviors that will lead to better health (St. Jude Medical Center, 2009). The Joint Commission publishes goals in several different areas each year. The 2009 goals
for patient safety identified these specific goals. For obvious reasons, these are copied directly from the Commissions Web page. * Improve accuracy of patient identification that included: using two patient
identifiers and eliminating transfusion errors (Joint Commission, 2008). St. Jude has already implemented electronic upgrades between the Medical Center and the hospital. This is described later. While this allows sharing
