is to assess literature on spousal abuse and the impacts of domestic violence on drug and alcohol abuse. There are three basic steps to this research process: 1.
search a general search engine (like Google) for WEB resources and bibliographical information on alcohol and drug abuse in victims of domestic violence; 2. search library resources and
on-line databases for the same subject areas; and 3. assess each source for content regarding either domestic violence or drug and alcohol abuse, while placing emphasis on sources
that relate to both. One method for locating possible texts to be utilized is to assess the bibliographies of other researchers and locate their relevant and timely source materials.
The study of others research provides a basis for searching for individual journals, WEB resources or texts that are applicable, while also allowing the researcher to weed out any
materials that are out-of-date. When using on-line databases, searching database collections, like EBSCO or ERIC provides a means of integrating journal source material from peer-reviewed journals and allows the
research to limit a search by full-text material and also by date. As a result, this search option provides relevant material in full-text that meets date requirements set for
appropriate research. One element that must be recognized when locating relevant material on this topic is that there may not be adequate source material on the subject of the impact
of domestic violence on drug abuse in women victims. In this case, it was necessary to look at studies that consider problems for women of domestic violence, problems related
to substance abuse for women, and then the connection between the two topics can be substantiated through connections with trauma or violence and substance abuse.
