are more than 200 wineries in the Ribera Del Duero region, which produce fine red and rose wines (List of Wineries). There are been a rapid increase in prices
for Ribera del Duero wines as their reputations has grown and demand increases (Walker 42). As this suggests, there are too many remarkable wines from this district to profile them
all, however, it is possible to investigate the manner in which wines from the Ribera del Duero district of Spain have improved and their general characteristics, as well as looking
in detail at a handful of wines and wineries that stand out as extraordinary. Over the last decade, three wine regions in Spain have been responsible for a renaissance
in the quality of Spanish wine: Ribera del Duero, Rias Baixas and Priorat (Ewing-Mulligan and McCarthy 26). Of the three, Ribera del Duero has emerged as the clear leader (Ewing-Mulligan
and McCarthy 26). While wine has been produced in this region for 2,000 years until recently, it was known for producing simple country wines. Today, it has emerged as Spains
leading red wine district (Ewing-Mulligan and McCarthy 26). Raimundo Izquierdo is a consulting winemaker who developed the Monte Pinadillo brand for Beacon Wines, which is a California-based importer of
Spanish wine (Walker 42). This brand is the first marketed by Beacon from the Ribera district and was brought into the market in mid-2000 (Walker 42). Wine reporter Larry Walker
