history and no one can justify the spread of the Nazi party, but the Soviet Union and its creation was perhaps not quite as easy to dismiss as an absolute
negative event. That is, there is still an arguable solid platform for communism. Communism is not all bad. Additionally, it should be said that the rise of the Third Reich
was not all bad either. Had it not been for anti-Semitism to arise within the party, some of the ideas were workable. Yet, both regimes were clearly totalitarian in nature,
something that disturbs the sensibilities of the current world resident. Although there has been much political thought on the topic, and Machiavelli did have a point, the present thinking on
government control is that the people deserve a certain amount of freedom. During the rise of the U.S.S.R. and the Nazis, freedom was eroded and the governments to rise from
Russia and Germany respectively cannot be easily or adequately justified. For the leaders of those nations to get to a point where they were able to rule the masses,
they would have to cajole the people, scare them, entice them, and delight them. It would not be enough to use force. Rather, the people would be controlled by propaganda.
They were fed the things they wanted to hear. Of cause, it is much easier to lead people in a certain direction when they go willingly. Even in Nazi Germany,
the Jews were told that they were heading to family camps. The idea of a family camp does not sound so bad. Had they known they were heading for the
gas chambers and certain death, they might have fought a little bit harder. Similarly, when all of the Russian people or the German people were sympathetic to their leaders, they
