So, one has to wonder as to why everyone isnt already recording all of their music in a digital format. Why are 90% of all music buyers still choosing to
use cassettes? (OMalley 60). This question can be answered with another question?remember 8-tracks? How about Beta videotape versus VHS? Those consumers who didnt experience these changes in technology personally
have been told about it by their parents?and they are, consequently, hesitant to invest heavily in a new technology that may disappear from the marketplace by next year. Many
consumers are waiting for one format and one device to emerge as an industry standard before they commit resources on a medium that may be replaced in the near future.
Another problem is that the manufacturers of electronics sold the public "on a digital future," but provided no way "to bring our
analog past along for the ride" (OMalley 60). Past purchases of cassettes represent a considerable investment for many people and they are reluctant to give up something so familiar for
untried technology. Additionally, those consumers who are willing to delve into the brave new digital world have to decide which medium is the best?and there is, at present, no clear-cut
