a show that brings viewers a look at people living this life feeds the desire to know more about them, see their complexity, and their unique lives. Of course the
show is one that is fictional and is acted, but the mystery and intrigue is there. The following paper examines this series, discussing its popularity, its cast, and other relevant
information. The Sopranos The Sopranos was created by David Chase and through its past five years on the air it "has become a cultural phenomenon, gaining popularity and unparalleled
critical acclaim for its groundbreaking approach to family and the mob, as well as for pushing the envelope of violence and strong language on television" (Wikipedia, 2004). The primary focus
of this particular show is that which applies to Tony Soprano (played by James Gandolfini) and his struggle to find balance in his real family and his mob family.
This show offers up the Mafia or Mob culture of America in a very exaggerated manner as it addresses a nuclear family that just happens to be part of
the Mafia. It explores a wide range of topics such as mental health, gender, family dynamics, conflict, class, sexuality, and of course violence. "It has been criticized by some for
its supposed reinforcement of negative Italian American stereotypes by focussing on organized crime" though this could apply to many shows (Wikipedia, 2004). From this description we can see that the
