1. Introduction On the 12th December 2004 Sony launched the PSP, Play Station Portable in December. The
launch aimed to have an initial level of 200,000 units followed by a further 100,000 units for each of the next three weeks (Williams, 2004). The launch followed in the
US, when in March 2005 much large market with a level of 1 million were used to launch the product (Video Business, 2005). The Europe launch, excluding the UK was
not until September 2005 and even later in the UK (BBC News, 2005). The levels seen at the launches reflect the level of the price that the company believed they
could command ensuring there was not an over supply of goods but that demand could be met. The price set and the plans made reflects issues such as the supply
and d demand, the market for hand held computer games and the way that Sony believed it could maximise its revenue in this market. 2. Supply and Demand If we
look at the way in which the price for any good is detained there are a number of factors. To start with we need to understand the concept of supply
and demand and the way this will impact on price. Where goods are supplied and the supply is greater than the demand the sellers will need to reduce the price
until more buyers are attracted by the lower prices, this is the concept behind sales where there is to much stock. Where there is excess supply over demand then prices
