Song of the Brook by Matilda Nordtvedt In understanding more about this book it may be interesting, and helpful, to note that her prior book, and thus presumably this
book, are based on the life of Nordtvedt. One author illustrates how her previous book, "is based on the actual childhood experiences of a young girl whose parents emigrated from.
Norway" (UNJobs). In light of this the book makes for an interesting read because one can assume, from this information, that Song of the Brook is a continuation of that
childhood experienced by Nordtvedt. The primary character in the novel is Hilda and this story follows "her family as they move to Washington state" (Books4HomeSchool). And, as this author
further notes "Its dominant theme is making the best of every situation in which God places one" (Books4HomeSchool). It is a story that shows Hilda grow and learn about things
in one portion of her childhood, and how she comes to see that she may have a gift for poetry. The story revolves a great deal around a special
school program. The teacher has told them all that they need to come up with something. The teacher tells them, "Maybe youd like to sing, recite a poem, play a
musical instrument, or do something else I havent even thought of" (Nordtvedt). In this Hilda begins to really look in side herself to see what she could do and she
