an African nation is often associated with risk, especially where there has been political unrest and there is uncertainty in the international arena over the governance of the area. However,
looking at Somaliland, located in the eastern horn of Africa there is a position where, with knowledge and understanding, there is a great deal of potential. With a stable economy
at a stage of development which could indicate good future returns. Somaliland is comparable in size to England and Wales with boarders to the Republic of Ethiopia and Djibouti
and Somalia to the east and south (Anonymous, 2006). With a population density of only 25 people per square kilometre and a total population of 3.5 million this is
a fairly rural area (Anonymous, 2006). The area and governance reflects its history, with the main language being Somali but English and Arabic are also spoken. Somaliland is not
a recognised nation between 184 and 1960 this was a protectorate under British rule. After gaining tier independence on the 29th June 1960, on the 1st of July the same
year they joined Somalia, a former Italian colony to create the Somali Republic. The cultures and history of the areas were diffidence, Somalia had no history of being a stable
state prior to Italys presence however Somaliland had a history of stable statehood prior to the British presence (Ahmed, 1999). The union was not successful and resulted in civil war
