a study commissioned by the German Ministry of Economics, the world stands to use up all of its natural gas, petroleum and uranium in less than fifty years; coal will
be fully consumed in just one hundred and twenty years (Anonymous, 1997). "...the fundamental challenge is clear: in the next century, we
must replace conventional energy sources with renewables, particularly since we also know that the ecosphere will be unable to absorb combustion of all the earths deposits of conventional fuels" (Anonymous,
1997; PG). Solar energy is one of the most promising options of renewable power, in
that its source comes from the one very constant energy pool on which this planet can depend: the sun. Myriad people have already switched to this alternative energy source
to power their homes, businesses and even automobiles. However, there are a great many costs involved in the initial setup of equipment that have kept most consumers priced out
of the solar market. Unlike its traditional counterpart, solar energy provides a "clean, renewable and domestic" (SUN.HTML, 1997; PG) source. The generating
system that provides the power is modular in structure to allow for various size restrictions and is easily adaptable to fit changing energy requirements. While enormous improvements have been
made over the years with respect to overall technological and cost standards, there is still a ways to go before the concept will be affordable to all consumers.
For the most part, renewable sources -- such as solar and wind -- are considered free reservoirs of energy because there is no cost associated
