the types of office automation, databases and group collaboration software that would work best in a commercial real estate office. Discussion This particular office deals with commercial real estate; in
particular, it develops shopping centers and leases space in them to commercial tenants. Tenants include food franchises like Starbucks and Outback Steak House; clothing stores such as The Gap; and
any other type of business that wants to locate in a high-traffic mall. In some cases, the brokers have exclusive deals with the companies; that is, they are the only
person in the area that works to find a space for a new Starbucks, for example. Such an office is very busy; it requires a lot of phone work between
the brokers and their clients; between the brokers and shopping center managers; and between brokers and stores that are already in place. Communication is probably the most vital function this
office performs. It also types up and retains copies of leases, contracts and other binding documents, so it needs a computer system for the secretaries and assistants to prepare documentation.
It also needs to track the space available in malls throughout the area. Lets see what might work in this setting. Group collaboration software can be defined as software that
"allows people to work together on the same documents and projects over local and remote networks" The first term coined to describe this type of software was "groupware," of which
