India may be a large producer of software, this reflects the increased demand and use of computers in the area and the influence of many international students and the
relevant university courses in the country, as well as the cheaper labour costs, lower regulations on employment and the lax regulatory environment. Copyright enforcement which has seen a high
level of copyright infringement of code (Mahabharat, 1992). Countries such as China may also have some of the same advantages, such as cheap labour and land, but may not have
the same skills, as such they specialise in an area that suit the resources they have. In looking at how and why global development has seen the hardware and software
has developed in such a distinct global pattern. To understand this we need to look at the theories of international trade, as the development over countries such as India and
China as well as Ireland where companies such as Compaq (now Hewlett Packard) have located their customer services, are all explained by reference to competitive and comparative advantage.
