Software Engineering , 2/2011 --for more information on using this paper properly! 2.2: In software engineering, communication between the designers and the client is absolutely critical if the end product is to meet all the requirements and needs of the end user. For this reason it is critical to put communication activities into action by focusing on specific tasks that be can be carried out to increase the effectiveness of client-designer communication. For instance, using an iterative approach to development helps to ensure continuous contact with the client, as does the setting of goals for stakeholder involvement, and also identifying key players in any particular developmental context. 2.7: The waterfall model of development is often referred to as a traditional or classical approach to software design because, not being iterative, it is antithetical to the approach typically employed by designers working to meet requirements of modern software systems. That said, such a system has been shown to be useful in industrial practices, as well as in the development of models based on military standards, where macroscopic characterizations of the design are often sufficient to support development (Scacchi, 2001). Additionally, waterfall models can be employed in the early stages of software engineering as an introductory explanation of ones intentions to clients with little familiarity with the overall process of development. 2.8,10: The prototyping model of development involves establishing a prioritized list of requirements and then implementing them one at a time in an iterative process, while the incremental process implements multiple features at once, iteratively. The prototyping model would thus be effective for software with highly modular and separate features, such as a retail suite with separate invoicing ...
