March 2001 Introduction Our challenge in this discussion is to consider how ones social and historical context affects ones place in society. We will be using two males
as subjects -Anglo and Hispanic both residing in northern New Mexico. White majority male Social and historical content - I am a white 62 year old male. I pretty
much call myself a "cowboy." A maverick cowboy from Texas as well-not too many of us left. I started on a horse and hope to be on one or
pretty close to one when I die. Particular society I started as a ranch hand; then got into law enforcement in Texas where I served as a sheriff.
I got tired of the election process and the back-biting. Politicians pretty much suck. I thought about going back to school, but by then I had a wife
and a kid. So I went for corrections. Social change factor? The people that are coming through the doors of prisons now are all sleeze. I have
seen em all. Yeah there are a few who have made honest mistakes-the rest should be locked up and throw away the key Troubles/Issues I dont think
that I have many troubles, mainly I feel tired of what I am seeing. People coming in here seem to be worse off. They have no idea how
"to do time." They whine and moan and groan-you would think that we were putting kids in prison instead of adult men. They just seem immature as hell.
Either that or there is nothing left inside of them and they will kill any body for the right price - and that may be a kilo or a
