explains that students are generally short of cash and because gambling in Australia is becoming easier than before, there is a great deal more gambling (12). Students are thus more
likely to gamble due to a variety of factors. One example is that students are more likely than older adults to bet while they are drunk (12). One can begin
to see that younger people are more vulnerable to gamblings wrath. Another student is highlighted by the name of Spencer Bannister who went to the dog races and lost
2,100 pounds during one particular weekend (Somaiya 12). He reported that after the devastating loss he remained in bed for three days and failed three tests due to
the emotions that the loss provoked (12). One can begin to see that gambling may indeed be construed as a serious problem. The article goes on to examine the
fact that the government will be changing the law so that students will have a greater opportunity to gamble. In discussing the targeting of young people as a result of
the proposed deregulation it is noted that firms do target certain groups (Somaiya 12). The article however shows both sides of the dispute. There were students who lost a lot
of money interviewed but there were also students who won or who were able to pace their gambling so that they could just have fun and not lose a lot
of money. Yet, most experts interviewed were of the mind that deregulation could cause a serious problem for the student population. To an extent, this article is hart hitting and
