in terms of labor relations, Australia did enjoy a history of unionism and pride, but there was a shift after 1980 and an agreement was reached between the state and
the unions in the form of the Accord. The Accord actually did help the people as it strengthen labor law, but it also to some extent left certain individuals with
fewer privileges and a reduced amount of protection. This trend, related to unionism, is something experienced worldwide. A 2004 article to come from Sydneys Daily Telegraph is entitled "Drivers campaign
to make your train late" and concerns the labor situation in Australia. It begins with a discussion on Sydney commuters who must cope with numerous train cancellations each day
(Sofios 6). The drivers of the train took action via DAAG or Drivers Affirmative Action Group which is an organization that makes its point through disobedience such as driving below
the speed limit and taking breaks at the busiest times (6). Overtime was also rejected by all the workers, something that means the system will be short staffed (6). There
has been a serious shortage in the business and drivers had gotten accustomed to working overtime (6). But conditions have been harsh. Now, drivers are taking action. Why are
they doing this? The employees claim that they want more rights, and that drivers are being harassed and are tired of it (Sofios 6). They also want a few other
perks such as better medical care and improvements in equipment in addition to better training (6). They want some personal gains but they would also like improvements on the job.
