evaluated in an article that takes a look at economic variables in Australia (12). The woman in question is concerned about retirement and pension entitlement issues (12). She is
concerned because there are gaps in employment which means that she has not contributed to National Insurance plan in the state during certain years (12). Due to her sporadic
work history, her divorce and her work abroad she has been told that she might only be entitled to half of the pension to which she would have otherwise been
entitled. To some extent, the article portrays her regrets. Although she may not be fully eligible for state funds, it is true that she has other investments. The article goes
on to explain that Coates lost money in the stock market but gained a great deal in terms of equity in her home, which is something she plans to sell
anyway in the near future. She explains in the context of the article: "I hope to work one day a week this year and claim my pension, but I am
wondering how people live on just their state pension entitlement as it is not worth much" (12). The article goes on to provide advice for the reader. It seems that
Coates can make some common sense financial moves which includes cashing out her equity and investing in something else since she does not need such a large home anymore (12).
Coates may or may not be typical of the Australian population, but her attitude is typical of human nature. Just as Social Security must go into a "lock
