because they do not like crowds, but others revel in it, live in it and tend to adapt its politics. In any event, they are generally ruled by the powers
that be inclusive of its mayor and rules and regulations that are a large part of city life. According to information submitted by a student, there are four principles
that define a city, the first of which is that a citys formation and growth results not from natural processes but rather from decisions made by people and
organizations that control wealth and other key resources. The second principle is that urban formations and social arrangements reflect conflict over the distribution of resources. A third point is that
the government continues to play an important part in urban life, and finally, the fourth principle is that urban growth patterns significantly result from economic restructuring. In using the four
principles, how are they supported by classic sociology theorists? First, the idea that a citys form results from decisions that control wealth and other key resources goes to theories
of class. Social stratification has always been a problem, but it seems to be very prevalent in the cities. Even in cities today such as New York for instance, the
homeless can live on the same block as the very wealthy. There is that much diversity. Yet, it seems that the decisions made--though made by elected leaders--still emanate from those
