This paper is a beginning exercise examining a young womans background; it will be added to as classes progress. Discussion There are some examples of socioautobiographies available; reading over one
by Sara Strayer gives the student a guide to follow in completing their work. Strayer first talks about her childhood, which she describes as being a happy one, in which
she was part of a loving family (Strayer). She then broadens out her perspective to consider how she tried to help a friend who had a social anxiety disorder, and
how terrible she felt when the friend attempted suicide (Strayer). Thus, she relates something of her background and couples it with societal involvement. Following Strayers model, the student might write
something like the following. Im a young woman, 25, with three wonderful children and a husband I love very much. Im employed full time at a credit union and Im
also going to school full time. I know that Im pushing myself extremely hard, but I want to get my degree and start building a career; I dont want to
be one of those people who "wakes up" at age 50 hating my job. I think that part of my drive comes from the fact that I was adopted
when I was seven years of age. Research indicates that for adopted children, the primary issues is loss: if we hadnt lost our birth family, there would not have been
an adoption in the first place (Smit, 2002). Adopted children lose a great many things, including the chance for a "normal" life with real, biological parents; we may also lose
