may argue that the society is progressing and others may well argue that society is not progressing but only becoming more complex and chaotic. There are issues of global concerns
when speaking of the American society and there are issues of a sustainable society. In essence, when speaking of society there are many things that can be taken into consideration
when speaking of progress or a lack of progress. The following paper examines several issues concerning American, and a global, society. Progress For the most part when people
envision progress they envision improving conditions on all fronts. This would mean, for example, that more and more people are able to be employed, feed their families, and have a
roof over their heads. Progress can indicate a better focus on helping humanity at large, using whatever positive resources are available for the race of humanity. Progress could mean that
the society is actually improving their environment rather than taking away from the environment and that all living things are taken into consideration. There are a multitude of elements in
the world that speak of progress. In relationship to whether or not the American society is progressing it may well be that the answer is yes, but not fast enough
for its own good, or the good of the world. The American society is the largest consumer society in the world and they have generally not taken into consideration
the harm done to the land, the animals, or other cultures or lands in the process. Rainforests have been destroyed for meat and lumber production, the air has been polluted
for the sake of transportation and manufacturing and it has really only been in the past few decades that the society has made an effort to change how it destroys
