of society. The following paper examines the importance of the study of human behavior in the social environment (HBSE) and then examines the Cognitive-Behavior Theory. Human Behavior in
the Social Environment According to the student requesting this essay, "The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), the official body that accredits under
graduate and graduate social work programs, has made Human Behavior in the Social Environment (HBSE) a CORE (or mandatory) content area of the social work curriculum." The question is why
this is a critical study in social work. In order to answer that question the subject itself must perhaps be understood or examined.
In looking at this particular subject there are many ways in which human being behave in society, many ways in which people react to social stimulus. This, in and
of itself, clearly indicates that human behavior in the social environment is crucial in their development and their identity and as such this makes it a very important topic in
studying social work. One author, in quoting a psychologist, notes the importance of this aspect of social work in the following: "I originally assumed that biology largely determines behavior...and so
